Beach time, diving, sailing, kayaking and other activities on the water: this is what the warm water of Chaleur Bay has in store for you. Stroll on the beach, right across from our hotel, and make your way to the marina. There’s also a sailing school, a magnificent golf course, a cycling trail, playgrounds and boardwalks, right on the seashore. And on the mountain side, there’s a vast network of trails for hikers and mountain bikers of all calibres. Be dazzled by the spectacular view from the summit of Mont Saint-Joseph, where visitors will find a chapel and a series of look-outs! Building on its many advantages, Carleton-sur-Mer hosts the Marathon Baie-des-Chaleurs in June and the Régates Écovoile (ecosail regatta) in August.
You’re sure to be charmed by the breathtaking scenery at Carleton-sur-Mer, a town on Chaleur Bay and a member of the Most beautiful bays in the world club! Our town is also a beehive of activities throughout the year. Host to numerous shows, sport events and cultural happenings, Carleton-sur-Mer is also home to an enticing variety of restaurants.
The outdoor destination!
Something for everyone
Culturally dynamic, there’s a vast array of happenings in Carleton-sur-Mer year round. In addition to the variety of performances staged at the Quai des arts, there are musical shows at the Microbrasserie Le Naufrageur as well as at the Gaspé Peninsula Convention Centre and the Marina. In the summer, visitors and residents can enjoy lively storytelling evenings on the beach, and the Tracadièche ecomuseum organises history-related talks as well as celebrating Acadian days in August. The summer season also welcomes the Rencontres internationales de la photographie en Gaspésie and the Festival BleuBleu. In October, La Virée Trad Festival celebrates cultural practices from the Quebec tradition with traditional music shows and a public market. Finally, there are art shows and installations to enjoy at the Centre d’artistes Vaste et Vague, open year round, as well as at the oratory on Mont Saint-Joseph in the summer.
Drop your bags in Carleton-sur-Mer!
A major economic hub on Chaleur Bay, Carleton-sur-Mer is a place of choice to stay for work or pleasure. There is a large concentration of enterprises and service organisations: an imposing wind farm, academic institutions (from elementary school to college), businesses of all kinds (restaurants, microbrewery, coffee roaster, shops…) and a number of specialised enterprises (mariculture, construction…). With seating for up to 25 participants, the Manoir Belle Plage meeting rooms are ideal for small gatherings. They perfectly complement the larger rooms available at the neighbouring Gaspé Peninsula convention centre.
It’s made for fun!
Explore the winter landscape on the Gaspé Peninsula! The Trans-Québec 5 snowmobile trail, which circles the peninsula, is one minute from our hotel. The Arpents verts outdoor activity centre has a 35-km network of trails in a majestic setting for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing enthusiasts. As for Mont Saint-Joseph, when blanketed in snow, it becomes a fabulous playground for people who enjoy tobogganing and tubing, snowshoeing and off-trail skiing (telemark, for instance). The more adventurous will want to try out traction kite skiing on the frozen Chaleur Bay salt marsh.
